Riverside Utd Kestrels Under 11's Do the Double

​

Riverside United Kestrels under 11' Stepped up to the challenge of playing 9 a side football in great style. After going unbeaten last season, Riverside Kestrels started off slowly losing their first 2 games. However, from then on in the lads decided to step up to the mark, getting to the County cup semi-final and undeservedly losing. This wasn’t the end for the Kestrels though, they wanted to prove a point, more hard work in training and matches got them deservedly a league win and the League cup. Finishing the season as double winners. As most of the parents are aware, This Riverside Kestrels Team Are a pleasure to watch.

Riverside Kestrels U11 v Thurlaston Magpies U11 League Cup Final

After already winning their cup group, Riverside Kestrels also reached the league cup final at Holmes Park against unbeaten Thurlaston Magpies on 20th May.

The early stages of the game were understandably tight and end to end with both keepers making some good saves. However Riverside started to take control and deservedly broke the deadlock towards the end of the 1st half through a strike from Ben Linney after rounding the keeper. Thurlaston nearly hit back right at the end of the first half, but for a point blank stop from Connor Read-Bray, which enabled Riverside to go in 1-0 at half time.

The second half followed a similar vein with Riverside dominating the early stages and went further in front thanks to a 20 yard free kick by Spencer Braker. Thurlaston fought hard and pulled one back in the last 10 minutes. In a frantic final few minutes Riverside produced some fantastic last ditch tackles and a great late save from keeper Felix Kennedy enabled Riverside to hold on and deservedly win their second trophy of the season 2-1……a brilliant team effort!

This week saw the U9's Phoenix visit the home of the mighty Leicester city... The King Power Stadium. They were shown around the stadium and were lucky enough to visit private boxes, press conference rooms, the changing rooms and even the dug out! Many thanks to Ashley Sabin for the organisation and for all that attended and assisted. It is the club spirit and good will of all of the volunteers that keep the club running and activities and events coming..please make sure you show your appreciation when you can.

Armistice Day & Remembrance Sunday - Days to remember those that gave their lives so we can live ours! Our teams all understood the importance of such an event and honoured it in incredible fashion.

​

All teams were presented with Wreaths (by the club, a big thanks to Andy Eames) to place on the centre spot of the pitches whilst observing a two minute silence whether home or away!

​

The Leicester Mercury even picked up on the story! Well done to all!

The recent 'Syston Festival Of Football' proved to be a huge success! The event saw forty teams over two days using our fantastic 4G facilities to play a unique eight games over the course of the day! Our teams worked really hard and many advanced into latter stages of the tournaments. With over a dozen positive reviews next years event is already being organised! The 2016/17 Season Trophy presentation took place at Syston Rugby Club and was a big success. We were delighted to have Paul McAndrew from LCFC in attendance and he brought the weather with too! The players all received trophies (some received special awards as well) and had a great time with family and friends in the sunshine! Many thanks to everyone involved!

For the first time this season all of our 2015/2016 teams played at home, there was a great atmosphere at and this seemed to be helped along by a very famous visitor. The U10's hosted Ibstock and in attendance with the travelling fans was Stephen Graham, star of films; Snatch, Gangs of New York and This is England. He cheered along his team with gusto leaving the home fans a little star struck. Post match, he very kindly posed for a photo with the team. A gent. Last weekend saw the annual club Christmas party take place at the Syston Conservative Club. The party was a great success and given the relatively short notice, saw a brilliant turn out of players, parents and families! Santa Claus himself arrived and treated the kids too! We would like to thank all the volunteers that brought along a vast array of food to feed us all, your efforts were hugely appreciated!

The U10's Kestrels & Hawks had the opportunity to raise funds for the club and have some fun in a sponsored penalty shootout against the man himself...Santa Claus! for a full hour the howls of laughter (as Santa made a complete fool of himself) could be heard across Syston! Afterwards the boys were treated to a McDonalds for all their efforts! A fantastic amount of money was raised!! Well done and congratulations to all!

We would like to remind all parents/helpers of the following important rules for match days held at Wreake Valley Academy;

​

- All cars/vehicles to be parked a the rear of the school - not the Charnwood Leisure Centre car park

- No pets are allowed on the front field on a match day

- All parents/spectators are required by the F.A to stand only behind the respect barrier marked allowing for clarity of instruction from coaches
